# Introduction to POD Profile

### Why it exists

In a print-on-demand store, hundreds of products share the same blank: the same brand, material, fit, care instructions and production time. Typing these into every product description takes time, and when a supplier changes, every product has to be edited again. Shipping times have the same problem: they depend on the blank, the provider and the destination country.

POD Profile stores these facts once, in profiles, and every product reads them from there.

### How it works

- A **Product Profile** describes one blank or one print setup, for example *Comfort Colors 1717 – DTG*: brand, model, print method, material, fabric weight, fit, features, care, processing time and size chart.
- A **Shipping Profile** gives the transit time to a set of destinations, for example *United States: 3–5 business days*.
- You **assign** Product Profiles to categories, tags or single products. Each product finds its Product Profile, and its Shipping Profile for the visitor's country.
- The product page shows the details in a **Product Details** tab, and the dates feed the [Estimated Delivery](/docs/introduction-to-estimated-delivery/) box and the shipping placeholders.

Change a profile once and every product that uses it updates.
